| == Math formula in table of contents looks broken under some user preferences ==
| |
|
| |
| If I set my preference to dispaly math formula with SVG and a section title contains a math formula like <math>1+1=2</math>, then the table of contents will contain a broken text like
| |
| * '"`UNIQ--postMath-00000001-QINU`"'
| |
| and I cannot link the section properly. If math formula is displayed using MathML, the table of contents displays properly and a link like [[#1+1=2]] works fine. [[User:慈居|慈居]] ([[User talk:慈居|talk]]) 18:40, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

| == Why the Vector 2022 skin is optimized for mobile view in Wikifunctions but not in other wikis? ==
| |
|
| |
| Hi. I have something that needs to be clear. How does [[f:|Wikifunctions]] is the only wiki that have the Vector 2022 skin [https://postimg.cc/fSXZs9Bf optimized] for mobile view? In other wikis, it's [https://postimg.cc/QFcBmBD5 not optimized] for mobile view and we have to zoom the page to see the content, but in Wikifunctions we don't have to do that. Although I have already enabled the responsive mode in global preferences, but Wikifunctions is still the only wiki that has the new Vector skin for mobile optimized, it does no effects in other wikis. I have checked that wiki and it seems they don't use any gadgets or css to change the look of the interface. [[User:Nvdtn19|Nvdtn19]] ([[User talk:Nvdtn19|talk]]) 18:10, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

| :I also do not know but I came here to complain about this. Vector 2022 is unusable on main Wikipedia on mobile. I think the "intended solution" is to go to [https://en.m.wikipedia.org en.m.wikipedia.org] instead; which is an annoying solution that frequently breaks in both directions, and seems unnecessary. | |
| ::By "frequently breaks in both directions" I mean: sometimes you visit a regular link on your phone and it doesn't redirect you to m so the page is borderline unusable AND ALSO when you send an m link to a desktop user they don't get redirected to regular Wikipedia so their reading experience is worse. M Wikipedia urls shouldn't be necessary at all in the current year, in my opinion. The theme should just be responsive correctly. If anyone reading can, pretty please fix this state of affairs. (Maybe Wikipedia just needs to update its version to latest or something; I don't know.) [[User:Dingolover6969|Dingolover6969]] ([[User talk:Dingolover6969|talk]]) 13:53, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
| |
| ::Neither "Enable responsive mode" nor "Enable limited width mode" in '''Skin preferences''' on English Wikipedia seem to do anything for this skin (I can confirm, conversely, that "Enable responsive mode" works for MinervaNeue there). | == Conditional formatting or text based on skin ==
| |
|
| |
| Since Vector 2022 makes so many different changes to the interface, it seems like there would be many contexts where being able to detect which skin is being used to view a page (especially distinguishing between Vector 2022 and legacy Vector) would be very useful. For example, you might want to float an element to the right in Vector 2022 but not in legacy Vector because of an already floated-right ToC. Or on a help page, say, when discussing some UI component, it would be nice to have a way of selectively showing only text that is relevant to a skin that the reader is actually using. Is there some way of doing these things (for everyone on a wiki) without editing the sitewide CSS? (In particular, I'm talking about something along the lines of <code><nowiki>{{USERSKIN}}</nowiki></code> [a hypothetical magic word].) Given the nature of skins and the principle of separating style from content, I suspect not. - [[User:Dcljr|dcljr]] ([[User talk:Dcljr|talk]]) 08:48, 14 August 2025 (UTC)

|
| |
| :@[[User:Dcljr|Dcljr]] Editors should not make assumptions about skins or screen size at all, because they are not reliable assumptions to make. Both can change at any time. Templates can use [[Extension:TemplateStyles]] to conditionally modify their layout and styling. TemplateStyles can apply conditional formatting depending on the skin, but this should be used very sparingly. —[[User:TheDJ|Th<span style="color: green">e</span>DJ (Not WMF)]] ([[User talk:TheDJ|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/TheDJ|contribs]]) 14:52, 14 August 2025 (UTC)

| ::What I'm talking about would not be assuming so much as tailoring. (Kind of the opposite of assuming, actually.) The fact that things can "change at any time" is beside the point. It is a fact, not an assumption, that some things are already presented very differently to users of different skins, so ignoring that fact is bound to cause problems sometimes. This would just provide a simple mechanism to avoid some of those problems. Anyway… I think we're done here. - [[User:Dcljr|dcljr]] ([[User talk:Dcljr|talk]]) 22:13, 14 August 2025 (UTC)

| == "Switch to old look" button ==
| |
|
| |
| Is there any particular reason the "switch to old look" toggle is given such prominence on the sidebar? I very much appreciate the efforts made to accommodate users who prefer the Vector 2010 (I was one of those users until recently) but I can't help but feel that the emphasis given on the toggle almost ''encourages'' users to switch back, especially given the bolding. Is there an option to maybe remove the bolding or even remove the toggle as a whole? It's a bit distracting. I almost think I would've switched to the new skin earlier if I didn't feel like it wasn't begging me to turn it off every time I tried it on.
